Hair woes...

The last time I was bald I looked like this...

sister Amy and myself...

It's been a while! When I first realized that I would be loosing my hair my first reaction was that I wanted to donate it. I love my hair!!! People pay good money to have blonde hair like this, and I get mine for FREE!!!

{Now, I realize that if you have bleached your hair that they can't use it, and I did bleach mine a little after Tru was born and it went a little darker. But it's been two years, and my hair grows super fast, and I've cut it and grown it and cut it again since then so I think that the bleached part is long gone by now...}

I think that it would be really sad to see my pretty hair just go down the drain or get chucked in the trash. However, the deal is that you have to cut it all off BEFORE you start chemo treatments. Here comes the scary part.

You need 9 inches to donate, mine is 13 inches root to tip. So I'll have to cut off basically all of it but maybe two inches (taking into account a trim...). So it will be super short. Super super super short!!! I'm a little nervous about this.

But don't you worry... I know how to pull off a short hair do. I've done it before...

By the time I was 10 I had perfected "the wave" as we liked to call it. Someone should have told me years before this that "the wave" should stay in the ocean... it's not meant to be worn on heads...

So... do any of you who live in the same town as me know any good hair stylists? I don't think that I want to trust any ole' person at Fantastic Sam's with this cut...

I think it is super great that you are going to donate your hair, I have done it a couple of times and it is nice to know it isnt just being thrown away. Good luck with your hair dresser search! I wonder if you dont find someone if you could call around and explain your story to some nice salons, if they might do it for free or real cheap?

You are so sweet. I can't wait to see your super sleek-short do!

Whoa, that is a crazy thought process to go through, but I am totally with you. I say donate it for sure! Be as in control of what is happening as possible. Choosing to cut your hair would be much more gratifying than just loosing it, and you'd be helping people in the process. I had a friend in grade school who had a wig and so I am always a fan of donating beautiful locks. There are some really cute short looks out there. I bet you'll make it rock!

Very brave, Meg. I had a very similar haircut when I was 8 or 9. We called it "the mushroom". :) I bet your haircut will be much cuter though. My sister lives in Vegas, and I will ask her if she knows of a good stylist. I know its hard to trust anyone with your hair.

I think you should do a slow transition process. Cut different hair styles, colors, even perm. Have fun doing crazy cute things until you have to finally shave it.

No, no, no. You got it all wrong.

You don't want a wave.

YOU WANT A MOHAWK!!! AND, you don't even need to pay ME to give it to you. Just think about it. Electric green. Hot pink. VIOLET!!

Ah, I'm totally feelin' it. You in??? :)

Meg you are so funny. I love the pictures. That is a HUGE decision to cut your hair now but it will probably be much more rewarding than just watching it go. I will ask around for a hairstylist. Mine comes in from St. George every so often and cuts hair - she will be here on the 19-20 of October. Is that too late? If not, let me know and I will get you the number. She is good and affordable. Keep the posts coming...you are such a good sport. Thanks for helping me keep a proper perspective on life.

I love that little picture of us. So, I guess it's safe to say you aren't going to bring back the wave? JK I'm sure there is a really cute short do out there that will look awesome on you :)

By the way...Kylee thinks that picture of me is actually her....haha. When I ask her who the baby is though, she says Megan. :)

You are going to be beautiful no matter what you do, but I hope you are able to find a style that makes YOU feel gorgeous still. I am sure no matter what, it will take some getting used to. So glad that you will be able to donate your hair because people do pay good money for hair like yours!

I love the pictures and Amy is right, Kylee does look just like her in that picture.

Good luck with the haircut! My boss went through chemo for breast cancer a couple of years ago. She went super short and found the cutest wigs. They were very realistic looking. I'll ask her where she got them.

I love the old photos. I have the wave too in a lot of my younger pictures. My mom was really into the curling iron roll, the one were you rolled your hair of in the curling iron and sprayed it with more hair spray than anyone needs so it would stay in that perfect roll. Love it!

Meg, I have a really awesome hair stylist. But, she is all the way over in Henderson. If you're interested her name is Megan and her # is 402-480-0608. I have a refer a friend $20 off coupon you could use too. By the way that's such a good idea to donate your hair- I think you could totally pull off a short hair do.

I think that's a great idea! I can't imagine not being in control of what happens to your hair. I have seen some really cute short hairstyles. I bet you'll find one that you like. I like the mohawk idea! haha! I'm thinking you can pull off a Sonya look and show that cancer what you really think!
You are so strong and I enjoy reading your posts!
Do you think you'll go with a wig later on? Have you thought of having your hair put into a wig for you or would that be too weird?

I actually donated my hair too about 6 months ago... I cut off about 10 inches. My hair was a super, super short spikey cut. It is fun! You feel really sporty and fun. You might love it. Make sure you get some good hair product so that you can wear your hair fun for a while. Like Hair glue....or some hair wax. I think it is awesome that you are donating your hair. good luck. let me know how it goes.
