On a plane...

We made a quick decision this week to fly home due to the very sad and premature death of my cousin. This was Tru's second time on an airplane... and I'm really glad that we managed to make it off the plane in one piece.

Here is what happened before the plane took off...
- I thought it would be a good idea to let Tru get out of his stroller so that he could run around and get some energy out before the plane ride... WRONG! Our gate was right by the moving walkway and all he wanted to do was get on that... which I wouldn't let him. So he threw a tantrum and I decided to just stick him in his stroller and wait to board...
- As I was putting him in his stroller I accidentally whacked him in the face (due to his flailing, so I only take partial blame...) so he is now screaming on the top of his lungs for the whole airport to hear... I'm sure all those people were so glad we were going to be on their flight!
- I miss the whole "parents with young children can board early" deal because I'm trying to buy Tru a drink to try to calm him down... since we can no longer bring our own in...
- We make it down to the door of the plane and we are missing a shoe... we lost a shoe over the weekend at the wedding so I just barely bought some earlier today!!!
- I hold up the line but find the shoe under his cute little tush... thank goodness!
- We find our seats. I pour the drink into Tru's sippy cup... which I fail to screw on correctly. Tru then pours the whole cup out onto our seat!
- Flight attendant brings paper towels after I try unsuccessfully to wipe it up with my jacket (baby wipes aren't going to cut it this time either) and we get it cleaned up just in time to sit down, buckle up, and hope that the next hour goes smoothly...

You know what? IT DID! Go smoothly... thanks to arm rest buttons, tray tables, little bottles of apple juice, chips, chips, more chips (it was his first time with chips okay)... animal crackers, empty chip bags to put the animal crackers in, eensy weensy spider (repeat 12 million times).... AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh

We made it!!! Only to repeat in a few days... great! The whole time I was really wondering why we were doing this... but you know... family is the most important thing there is. More than being comfortable on a plane... more than anything I would have been doing at home. My heart is aching for my cousins family right now, a family who has always supported me in my life and I'm glad that I'm able to be here to support them, however sad the occasion.

Ok. I just have to be honest. This post totally made me laugh... But am I allowed to say that? I mean, I'm totally sorry that your cousin died... but that plane story is SO up my alley...

But. Sorry your cousin died.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. That is really horrible. I'm glad you made it here in one piece. Planes are definitely not a fun place to be with a toddler.

Babe-We are sad you are gone and for the reason you are. We wish you a 'better' flight home (even if it is not as funny). FYI: We give Jane lollies for Take off and landing. She loves them. There is lots of looking out the window and books when we fly with her too. She's been on ten flights since she was born.

You're an amazing mother! I can only imagine being on a plane with a little one!! Sorry to hear about your cousin. We've been there before, and T.Ray did almost the same thing as you...sat in a room for hours talking to his little brother about suicide, wishing he had all the answers. You guys are in my prayers...and your family :)

I think everyone that has ever taken a toddler on a plane has had the same experience. I know I have! So sorry for the loss of your cousin.
