Reviving the dead...

On December 20th we became... a one car family. It was a move I was pretty scared to make. It was sort of our choice... the choice between paying an arm and a leg to fix our old Crown Victoria (yes, I admit we had a grandma car) or to give it to a home that didn't care that she smoked. Apparently in my state, they care A LOT if an old car is smoking, even just a little. So we said our goodbyes and left her somewhere that smoking isn't banned.

So far the transition hasn't been too bad. More time spent with Trent as we drive him to work and pick him up each day. The biggest adjustment has been making dinner at night. You see, this was the one area of wifehood/motherhood that I felt I had down. My timing was perfect, finishing a nice yummy meal just as Trent walked in the door. This was something that I have worked hard at achieving over this last year I have been staying at home.

Now that the time I used to spend making dinner is spent driving in the car, I've lost my mojo... Making dinner before and having it get cold just doesn't sound appealing to me. If I haven't made dinner, or even thought about what to make for dinner before I get Trent, leads to not going home and running around going to stores and picking up dinner... which I really don't care to do.

So today I decided to dig out the ole' crock pot...

Makes sense right? Throw the ingredients in, I can leave it on while we drive around. Still walk in the door to a tasty meal. The only real draw back I see is that I have to come up with new recipes... or alter our "regulars". But I'm sure that this will be a better solution to our dinner problem. We got this crock pot for a wedding gift. I think that I can count the times that I've used it on two hands... hopefully our taco soup tonight will be just wonderful and the encouragement that I need to give this old beauty a permanent spot on the counter.

Oh Meg, we are totally on the same wave length right now. Jeff got me a huge crock pot cook book for Christmas because I said it would make having a hot dinner easier as I adjust to motherhood and work on a routine. I have yet to try any of the recipes because my mom is here helping cook, but I will pass along any good ones to you.

I am actually surprised that you don't use yours more! We use ours for EVERYTHING. I have recipes that I actually make cake and meatloaf and mac-n-cheese in mine. it works for EVERYTHING!!
Let us know how it goes using it!
My crock-pot is my best friend. Ifraz loves when I put a whole chicken in it with some barbecue sauce and let it simmer all day...really tasty. They actually have some racks you can put in the bottom as well so you don't have your food sitting in the juices if you don't want....
ENJOY!!!

You guys had a Crown Vic? Us too...we still have ours, and it's not smoking...but we are not going to cry the day it dies. It is a Grandma Car...in fact Niel's parents gave it to us. Which is awesome because it was totally free.
