First, I wanted all of the stockings to be different for a few reasons... I didn't want to make a bunch of stockings for "future children" and I didn't want to buy a bunch of fabric and rat hole it so that when more children come I can make more then and they all look the same. I felt like it would jinx me.... I know I'm a bit of a nut. I don't want to put a potential number on my future family so I thought the best way to go would be to make each of us a different stocking.
Also, I just like the way it looks to have a variety of different stockings. It makes it interesting and fun. A few months ago I found this great blog by this very talented lady (named Meg... isn't that a great name?) I checked out the stockings that she made last year and I loved them! {If you go over to her blog you have to check out her house tour... amazing!}
Anyway, that was where I got the inspiration to make our stockings....
I made a big template out of cardboard and I'll keep that with my Christmas stuff so that in years to come I can make others for new family members. I love the way they all look together. I thought about embroidering our names on them but I think that I'll just make a little tag and sew it on the inside instead. (Uggg... sorry that the picture is bad... lighting in here is no good.)
I LOVE this one!!! When I finished it I almost changed my whole idea and wanted to make them all like this! I bought this green and white fabric for a different project but thought it would look great as a stocking. It's from a new line of Moda fabric called Cotton Blossoms (designed by a mother and daughter... I love her blog too.) The red velvet is leftover from Tru's Nacho Libre cape. I love those little balls. It's the first time that I've used those in a project and I think that I'm addicted, I'm trying to figure out what else I can put little balls on.
There you have it. I had so much fun making these and seeing how they all turned out.

VERY cute stockings! I think that the reason that I like mine so much is that they are so different from everyone else's :)
Good job!
i LOVE it ...
and i am copying.
and that's so funny about the dolls!! what's even funnier (not really - and funnier's not even a word) is that i STILL haven't mailed your precious tokens of Hawaii. shame on me. you will get them. one day, out of the blue BAM, there they will be.
these are AWESOME!! great job! it's fun to just put stuff together and see what works best and then start sewing! these are just perfect. i am so glad you introduced yourself to me. :)
i am going to look around here a bit...i can tell you are a fun girl.
have a good night!
Those look great! I love the 1st one!
BTW I went through the same conversation with Nilesh about making them different so I don't have to try and make the same ones for future children!
Those are so cute! I love your idea of making them all different. Wonderful job!
I love these and the shelves. I hope you are feeling better. You are doing so much more than I am and I am not even sick.
I looked at that 'Whatever' blog. LOVED IT!! Their house is totally what I would do. Open, beautiful, vintage, country, bright color splashes... LOVED IT!!! Thank you for sharing. :D
Very Cute Meg!
Great Job! I feel inspired to make some now . . . (Right now we're using the cheap red and white fuzzy kind you can find at any store . . . But honestly, I think they're a touch too big. It takes a lot to fill them.) I should totally make some pretty ones (I think I am doomed to have projects this month no matter what I do) . . . I never thought about making them all different. What a great idea!
So cute! I never would have thought to make all the stockings different...but they really look good together. I have been waiting to buy stockings until I have all my kids, but now I don't have to. Thanks! I will just not try to get them all to match. You're so smart!
