My Shelves...

Remember this post about President Uchtdorf's talk and how I was going to dress up my naked little shelves? Remember how I said it was going to be done by... October 20th!!! That didn't happen.

But thankfully Christmas time rolled around and that helped a little bit to get the shelf filled. Here are the sad, empty shelves for a refresher...

And here are the shelves now...

1. This is a cute picture of Tru giving his cheesy grin.

2. Two little vases bought at IKEA for $1.50 each. I put some festive berries in them for the holidays. I think when the holidays are over I'll get some of those little yellow ball flowers to put in there.

3. Picture of our feet (Meg, Trent, Sean and Chelsie... guess who has the extra foot in) when we went to the green sand beach on the Big Island. I changed it to black and white so now it looks like the black sand beach... not sure why I did that. I think that I'm going to change it back.

4. These little metal baskets I got when we were first married. Honestly, I'm not loving them. They are not really my style anymore, but I had them and they are nice so I put a candle in one and sea shells in both of them.

5. This beautiful little nativity of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus my mom made for me and gave to me at Thanksgiving this year. I love it, it's very sweet. I'm trying to think of something I can put behind it or under it to bring a little more color to that section of the shelf... Once Christmas is over I'm going to put a pretty picture of the Salt Lake Temple there with some other knick knacks.

6. This is my favorite picture of Tru. This was when he was four months old and this is the first time that his sweet little loving personality started to come out. Trent had been in the emergency room all night and was home resting in bed. Tru just wanted to lay there and cuddle his dad. I thought it was really sweet.

7. Our little jar of mixed sand from Hawaii.

8. A wedding picture of us that is facing the right way! All my wedding pictures were taken with film (I got married before the digital revolution... imagine that!), and I have all the film but they are all cut individually (does that make sense). I couldn't find a place that would develop the film like that, they all say that they have to be connected in a row... so I just scanned this one in on my scanner and had it printed at Costco and it looks great! It's a kissing picture... I think that it's cute.

It feels good to have these shelves filled. It was a little embarrassing when people would come by and I had these empty shelves. Now they highlight some of our favorite memories and times in our life. I'm sure with time things will be traded out for new favorite memories. Anyway, I like to finish my projects, not leave them hanging. So I thought I would say that this one is now done!

It's been a lot of fun to decorate our place. Like my friend Erin said once, I refuse to go into debt to decorate our place. Every pay check I get a little something, maybe a pillow, or some frames, or whatever is on my mind that fits in the budget. I think that there are lots of things that you can do that don't cost a lot of money to make your house look nice. It's taking a while to get everything done, but it's all coming together and I'm glad that I have taken it slow and am getting things that I truly love instead of just buying a bunch of stuff to fill the space.

Looks great!

I loved the green sands beach when I was there. It was soooo neat!

In hypnobirthing they call them "surges" :)

Meg, you are SERIOUSLY so awesome. You are such an inspiration to me! I love your decorating style. I wish we lived near each other so we could hang out and do crafty things together.
