Thankful for girlfriends...

Oh, there is nothing as valuable as a good girlfriend. I believe that when you find a good genuine friend, they are a keeper. I hope that Trent doesn't mind me sharing this story, but I thought it was a good illustration of this...

A few weeks ago I was chatting Trent's ear off about stuff he really didn't care about... what shirt I should wear with this skirt, if he thought this one bedding looked cute, what should I do with my hair, should I get bangs... the list went on. After suffering through it for a while he finally looked at me... then looked down at his chest and started feeling around...

He then said, "Do I look like a girl to you or something? Go ask one of your girl friends these questions... NOT ME!!!" Poor Trent. I do treat him more as my girlfriend sometimes than I probably should. He's right though, some things you just need a girls opinion on, somethings a husband just doesn't understand or care to comment on.

I'm not the kind of girl who likes to have lots and lots of friends. I like to find one or two real great girls that I have a lot in common with and do EVERYTHING with those few people. I think I'm a bit insecure, and I have a hard time with all the girly drama sometimes. I find that if I stick to just a few it's better for all of us.

However...

After thinking about this, I'm now in a stage of life where I have more girlfriends than ever! I'm still great friends with my two favorite girls from high school...
Ashley and Shan... thanks for going through one of the toughest stages of life with me. We had so much fun together!!! I'm glad that it hasn't ended.

I still keep in contact with all my roommates from college... except for Stefanie, I have NO CLUE where she is! She was the shy quiet one and got left in the background a lot of the time with us noisy, crazy girls. Looks like somethings never change. I'm glad that we are all still able to keep in touch through the blogging world girls!!!
This picture is of our first Sunday going to church at our new ward. Little did we know what the year ahead would bring... but it was such a fun adventure!!! These are the girls who witnessed those first few months after I met Trent... oh the stories they could tell on me!!! I should be nice to them...

Then I think of all the amazing girls that I met in Hawaii. This is where the list pretty much quadruples. I'm not going to mention everyone name here, but I just want you to know that I am touched at the amazing women that I get to associate with. Such amazing friends who have really been there for me in my life.

Okay, I'll name a few...

Kati, you really helped me make it through a scary time in my life when we first moved to Hawaii... Thank you!

Taylor, we weren't even really friends when we were living in the same state, but I think that I owe a lot of my sanity those first few months of Tru's life to you ;).

Ashley C., Christina... we have a lot in common along the lines of these babies... if you know what I mean, it's good to have someone who really knows how I feel about all that.

Kristi, JaiCi, Kjell, Chelsie, and the millions of others of you that have gone on a run with me.... that's when you really get to know someone. When you are running alongside someone and you get into a good, deep conversation and you learn ALL KINDS of things that you never knew before about a person... deep friendships are formed...

Stefani, I'm pretty sure that we were destined to be friends... since we went to the same school TWICE!!! (You too Brittany).

ANYWAY!!! I feel a little bad that I even started with the names, because I really don't have time to write a personal note to all of you. BUT JUST KNOW... that if you are my friend it's probably because you have touched my life in a way that only you could. Some day, sometime, we made a connection. Whether it was talking about babies sleeping, stressing over our week with campers, finding the perfect prom dress, listening to boys talk through the wall of our apartment, sweating together in the early morning hours when we should have been sleeping. You have made an impact on my life...

Isn't that really what friends are for, to help us live fuller lives and to make us feel good about ourselves.

I feel so very blessed to have amazing girlfriends... I know just who to call when I need a recipe, or have a sewing question, or want to find a natural remedy for a cold.... I am sort of reverting back to my old ways of just keeping a few good friends. Thanks Mindy and Crystal for being my friends out here in the desert...

I'm really grateful that we can all keep in touch through this whole blogging world. It brightens my day to get a sweet comment from a dear friend...
From the bottom of my heart...

Thank you...

Aw, thanks for including me. I am like you and have always only had a few friends throughout my life. I consider you one of those friends and I'm glad we still keep in touch after all of these years. Evan always tells me, too, to find a girl to talk to. I guess hair, clothes, and decorating aren't too exciting to most men! :)

I have to tell you that I love your blog, too. All your cute little crafty and decorating posts give me good ideas and motivation. Too bad we don't live by each other to work on some of this stuff together! :) Here's one of the quilting websites that I looked at before trying out machine quilting: http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2008/03/free-motion-quilting.html

The two most important things to know is that you need an embroidery or darning foot (mine is plastic and looks a little different than the one in video on the website above) and you also need to lower your feed dogs. I looked up on the internet how to lower mine because I didn't know (turns out it was super easy and there's just a little lever to raise the plate above the feed dogs to hide them). After I figured those two things out, I got some scrap material and put thin batting in between and practiced. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought. I'm still not very good at it and I have a hard time moving the material at a steady pace while keeping the foot pedal at a constant speed, so I stop and go a lot, but it's really fun to try it.

Oh, and the first project I machine quilted, I actually just used my regular presser foot and did straight lines. So if you don't have an embroidery foot, you could always try that (and you can keep your feed dogs up for that, too).

Sorry that was so long! Let me know if you have any more questions. My e-mail is kmthomas at yahoo if you want to chat that way. :)
