Fitness Friday - Love what you have!!!

I think that it's very easy to focus on the parts of your body that you don't like... rather than focus on the parts that you do like! I was thinking about this during the week when I would glance at myself in the mirror while running on the treadmill. It's a little brutal to watch yourself run. The parts that are strong and firm stay... in place. And the parts that are not so strong and firm are... ALL OVER THE PLACE! So maybe the lesson I really learned this week is to not watch myself run in the mirror, but watch myself when I'm standing still, and focus on what I love about me and not focus on what I don't love...

Come on, just admit it, we all have to have something that we love about bodies! I'm going to share my two favorite "parts" with you all...

First - My neckline, or collar bones... whatever you want to call it.

Even when I was huge, swollen, and pregnant, I still loved my neckline. I attribute it to years and years of dancing. Day after day of standing up straight, pulling my shoulders back, it's a dancers neckline. Even though I'm not a dancer anymore, whenever I look at it, it reminds me of being strong, standing tall, and carrying yourself with grace...

Second - My back

This picture is thanks to Mindy who took a picture of me walking though Costco. When I first saw it I thought, "You know, I really like my back!" Sure I have these chicken wing shoulder blades... but I like it. I can't really put my finger on why I like it, but I do.
I think that it's easy to get discouraged when you focus on the areas of your body that you don't like. Try focusing on the areas that you do like. Lately I've been trying to keep the attitude of, "What good can I do for my body today, because it does a lot of good things for me." It's a relationship, a companionship, you will be with it for your whole life. If you do good to it (hopefully) it does good things for you.
My body has done really great things for me. It brought me my beautiful son. It has carried me high onto mountain tops to see the beautiful creations of God. Even when it's been sick and weak, it's been strong enough to let me do the things that I need to do for my family.
So take a minute, think about it, and write what your favorite body part is. Focus on the good not the bad, and what you are going to do to treat this beautiful gift you've been given right today...

I really like this post, Meg. It is so true, we do get stuck on the areas of our body we dislike. I am going to try really hard to think of the areas of my body I like....

You're so good to remind all of us about things like this, but I can honestly say that I think you're just about perfect :)
Seriously, I think that you always look just beautiful....
Thanks for helping everyone (especially me) to focus on the positive. It gets hard, especially in our world
