Impulsive...

We have been rather impulsive lately. Not really planning what we are doing, just enjoying flying by the seat of our pants and seeing where we end up. This weekend was one of those weekends.

Since are plans to go to Utah were thwarted we decided to just take a little drive, go and check on the old Hoover Dam and see how the new bridge they are building is going. So we drove along, I was fighting sleep and managed to stay awake until we saw the dam and then was out like a light. When I woke up Trent was somewhere in.... Arizona? I figured that he knew where he was going so I let him drive on. Finally he said, "I think this is the road we take to get to... the Grand Canyon." So much for a little drive, we were now on our way to the Grand Canyon.

It was such a beautiful drive. Yellow sunflowers lined the highway the entire way. I wanted to jump out of the car and run through the flowers, but I thought that would look really strange to have this girl running down the center of the highway... so I didn't. By the time we got to the turn off for the Grand Canyon we were racing against the sun. It was about 6:30 PM and we had an hour to go before we made it there, so we were booking it (legally of course).

We made it! We pulled in just in time to see a gorgeous sunset over the canyon!!! As we unbuckled Tru, Trent said to him in a very serious voice, "Son, we are about to see where Joe Dirt got lost..."

It was worth the drive, it was so beautiful to see this gorgeous canyon in the sunset. It had just rained so that air was damp and smelled like delicious rain! It was just the experience I needed to recharge my battery.

I thought that the drive home was going to be boring and not so scenic because it was dark, but we were lucky enough to watch a lightning storm dance across the sky the whole way. It was amazing.

I love being impulsive sometimes. This would have been boring day turned into a great adventure, with nature putting on a magnificent show for us. I'm so grateful for this beautiful world that we get to live in...

I love impulse too. It sounds like you all had a great time. The Grand Canyon is one of my most favorit places.

PS: Meg is your birthday at the end of this month? Let me know on my blog. THX

That is awesome that you just went and saw the Grand Canyon. You are so lucky your little guy will be that good in the car!

Sounds like fun. Occasionally, Rusty will say, "We won't make any memories sitting at home watching TV". I think those are great words to live by.
