Fitness Friday - Seven Most Effective Exercises

I found this great article on Web MD (to read the full article click on that link) about the 7 most effective exercises. To summarize they are:

1- Walking
2- Interval Training
3- Squats
4- Lunges
5- Push Ups
6- Abdominal Crunches
7- Bent Over Row

I’m finding out more and more each day how hard it is to get a good workout in. With so little time it would be well worth it for me to do those exercises that have the most benefit. When I was reading this article I remembered something that I learned in my weight training class in college, and that is that those exercises that work the most muscle groups at one time (in one exercise) are the best to do. So a good example of that would be squats (which is on the list). Squats work pretty much your whole leg: quads, hamstring, glutes, what’s not to like about that???

I’m not going to do this article justice by talking about it, you should just go and read it. But here is the challenge that I think I’m going to try this week. Write down all of those exercises on a piece of paper and put them in a bowl. Everyday draw one out and do that exercise that day. Do it as many times as you can. So on sit up day, don’t let a commercial break go by without getting some crunches in. Make an outrageous goal to do 300 sit ups in a day when it’s that day, and see how close you can get.
