Beverley's Cherry Chocolate Torte...

Okay, this is too good not to share, it’s my favorite cake ever!!!

1 chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup butter
1-2 cups whipped cream or cool whip
1 pkg chocolate chips
1/2-1 can cherry pie filling
1 cup chopped almonds or pecans (optional)

Bake the cake in two round cake pans. Once cooked cool and then place in the freezer (easier to cut when they are really cold). For the filling, melt the stick of butter in a sauce pan. Add in the bag of chocolate chips until melted. Add the pie filling (easy on the juice) and nuts. Let cool so that it thickens.

Now that the cake is cool, cut both circles in half. Put down the first sphere on a cake plate. There will be 4 cake layers when you are done. Frost the 1st and 3rd layers with the chocolate cherry filling, the 2nd and top with the whipped cream (so every other layer is cherry chocolate and the others are the cream). Garnish the top with cherries, sprinkles, shaved chocolate, etc. Freeze before serving, take out of the freezer 10-20 minutes before serving.

*** In the picture below I only made one 9″ cake instead of two. That’s why there are only two layers instead of four. I used the rest of the cake mix to make cupcakes, so I had to make a smaller cake. But it should be a four layered cake of absolute goodness!!!!
