I would like for my kid to have a cute Halloween costume. I've been looking forward to this time for a while, where I could make these elaborate costumes for my kids. I guess I was a bit spoiled in this area because my mom would ask us what we wanted to be for Halloween and whatever it was she would make it. I tried to always have a costume that no one else would have. So I've been a lion tamer, an alarm clock, a tooth fairy... the list goes on.
So we went looking at patterns at Joann's last week and the only one that looked really good to me was this...

But then I got thinking, Tru is going to be sitting at home with his boring parents this Halloween. I'm not taking him trick or treating because he's too young for candy, we don't have any family around to go and show him off to. But I don't want to do nothing, because that would be super boring.
So I decided that I would knit Tru a pumpkin hat and get him a cute Halloween shirt and call it good. The only problem is that.... I don't know how to knit!!!! I've never really learned how to knit, so what better time to learn right?
I went to Michael's and bought a book on how to knit and I've been working all weekend on figuring it out. So far I can cast on, do the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Not too bad... I need to figure out the whole increasing and decreasing, and how to read the patterns that all look like jibberish to me... Hopefully I can figure it out and Tru can have a cute pumpkin hat on his little fat head for Halloween... Wish me luck...

You were a "blueberry" your first Halloween when you were 1 month and 2 days old. I dressed you in a blue fuzzy warm sleeper thing when we took Amy around to show her off. Your second one you were a pumpkin. i wonder if I still have that costume.

I am so glad that you are thinking about Halloween costumes already, too. I get teased by all my buddies because I am already starting Navi J's costume this week. I haven't gotten the pattern yet, but I already know what he WANTS to be. Glad my friend is as "on it" as I am :)
I love that my family is commenting on my blog. So nice!!!
Joshua is being a pumpkin too! Actually we all are- a whole pumpkin patch! I think it's fun to dress babies up even if you're not going out. We'll probably just show him off at work then hand out candy at home!
CUTE CUTE! Gigi was a pumpkin for her second Halloween too :) Now, if Trus' a princess next year, we'll really have a trend going :)
Sierra wore a little pumpkin sleeper her first Halloween (she was only 4 days old) and last year she was a bear. I'm thinking of taking her to the store where the costumes are and letting her pick one out, but I don't know if that will work. Maybe just whatever she touches the most will be her choice. She's not really into communicating much with me yet other than grunts and jabbers.
thats funny, of all people I learned to knit back in highschool. I had an aunt who had all her fingers chopped off by a saw and was an amazing knitter, so I learned basic stiches from here. I pretty much just learned to do square patterns though pretty boring. But I've actually made quite a few dishclothes and even a huge afgan and very soft and cuddly baby blanket that is at home stowed away. I grew up wearing knitted booties from my aunt. You'll have to learn to make those, there amazing.
