Okay, do any nursing mothers out there have any suggestions as to what to do about the biting??? My doctor said to have a big reaction and that will usually scare the baby and they wont do it any more. Wrong.... he just laughs at me, thinks that I'm being funny. I heard too that you should flick them, but I can't do it, I don't want to be mean to him, I just want him to stop biting me!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated... really!!!
One thing that I do know, is that pickles are great teethers...

I was always told to bite them back but I really can't see you (or myself for that matter) ever doing that. Ouch!
UGH! I'm sorry. When Gigi bit me I did the same thing, I screamed! and then I tapped her on the mouth with my index finger and said no. It was really hard to do and she cried like I had literally broken her heart, but she never bit me agian, and we've since forgiven each other :)
love the pickle pic!
plug his nose - he'll release.
It is hard to be stern in this situation, but from my experience and others' I think it's the best thing to do. With Emmit...I hate to say it, but I gave up breastfeeding. He was biting and laughing, and I didn't know what to do.
With Howard I tried saying "No" one time with a stern voice and put him down on the floor and left him. He was pretty sad, but he didn't bite me again.
Good luck!
I have read and been told not to flick them or bite them back or anything like that. Here are some tips from my breastfeeding book:
1. Pull your breast away as soon as baby bites and say NO firmly, without smiling.
2. Try putting baby down, walking away, and then returning to nurse.
3. If you can anticipate when the biting usually occurs, pull baby off ahead of time.
Its says that over time, he should learn that when he bites, he does not get to nurse, so that will help him understand not to. Hopefully that helps.
Well with Olivia the flicking worked she bit me once, I was prepared and flicked her and told her no, she never did it again. With Zachary he bit me once, I stopped that nursing session, he never did it again I think he might have had he had the attention to nurse longer but he quit before I was ready. :( Good luck!
not that im a mom yet, but I feel that if they have teeth and are biting then it's time ti quit. i would like to keep my nipples in tact and biting free!
Before Joshua had teeth he would clamp down then shake his head from side to side as he pulled back- oh man did it hurt! I would take him off and tell firmly tell him no. He would then made the sadest frowning face and would start to cry. I would wait a few seconds then offer my breast again. He did it 3 times and then stopped. I was told my other mums not to make it to much of a production or they think it's a game. Hope that helps!
